Architectural and Engineering Technology
The new streamlined ARET program is now open for enrolment.
The ARET program emphasizes the design processes in building, civil and mechanical technologies, involving design projects for building structures, subdivisions, municipal services, and electrical, plumbing, lighting and HVAC systems.
Two-year diploma
Courses cover architectural design, statics and strength of materials, structural analysis, fluid mechanics, mechanical design, electrical design, steel design, wood design and reinforced concrete design. Students also learn about construction management, construction contracts, specifications, estimating, building regulations, technical writing and construction surveying.
Student opportunities
Use networked CADD workstations with the latest release of Autodesk software to develop computer-aided design and drafting skills. Become proficient at using Civil 3D and Revit Architecture AutoCAD, and at customizing AutoCAD software.
Careers for graduates
- Building technologist
- Mechanical technologist
- Civil technologist
- Designer: With some work experience progress to senior designer, job captain, specification writer, estimator, quantity surveyor or project administrator.
- Typically employed by professional engineers, architects, general contractors, sub-contractors, manufacturers, federal, provincial and municipal governments and technical/sales representatives for product suppliers.
Join us to explore research ideas and opportunities and to support our student researchers as they share the results of their research. Science students from all areas of Science will be presenting posters from projects completed through Honours, Directed Studies, Undergraduate Research Experience Award Program (UREAP), and other research programs.
When and Where
